Join us for the January Showcase Cinema feature: The Grizzlies. Tickets are $10 each at the door.
Based on a true story, The Grizzlies is about the determination and resilience of a group of Inuit youth in a small Artic community. In 1998, first time teacher Russ Sheppard moves north for a job at a local high school in Kugluktuk, a town with one of the highest suicide rates in North America. Russ is shocked by the numerous social issues facing the youth. Russ introduces a lacrosse program in the school, and although it is at first met with resistance, Russ’ commitment begins to win the trust of the students. Through the sport, the youth find a vital outlet for their emotions, and the team creates a sense of pride and purpose in themselves and the community.
